Library joins the new 'Millennium'

MillenniumSearching the Boeing Library for a full-text NASA report or a Boeing D-series document is now faster and more efficient, thanks to Millennium, the new library catalog system.

Millennium improves response time, allows employees to build custom bibliographies, provides better results from search strategies, and gives employees more control over their library account. Millennium's features let users

  • See what material they have checked out and have on hold.
  • Cancel a hold or renew material.
  • See if there are holds on a particular title.
  • Review an item's bibliographic record by clicking on its title shown in a user's account.
  • Sort the items a user has on loan by the due date.

"With more than 1.2 million records in our library database, it's important that our search and retrieval capabilities can satisfy customer requirements," said Teresa Powell, a Boeing Shared Services Group librarian in Arizona. "Millennium is exceeding our expectations with near-instantaneous response times and an extremely powerful search engine."

Boeing employees conduct more than 70,000 searches each month using the library's online catalog. Materials available to employees through the library catalog include

  • Externally published materials—books, reports, periodicals, journals, newspapers, videos, and industry and military specifications and standards.
  • Internally produced materials—Boeing documents, videos, photos, technical papers and Boeing standards.

To help employees use Millennium, the Boeing Library (http://librarylearning.web.boeing.com internal link only) offers a 10-minute Trainer, search tips, online help, and staff members always available to help customers with questions.

In the next year Boeing librarians expect to unveil more features in Millennium that will provide additional search and employee account capabilities.
