'Truly a regrettable event'
In November, Boeing informed approximately 161,000 current and former employees their personal information may have been compromised when an employee's laptop computer was stolen. Because of an ongoing investigation, not all of the circumstances of the theft can be revealed. However, Boeing informed affected individuals of the steps they could take to prevent identity theft and to monitor their credit in the future.
Rick Stephens, senior vice president, Human Resources and Administration, is leading the effort to get information out to affected individuals—and to review the policies and processes to ensure such personal information is not jeopardized again. Stephens spoke with Boeing Frontiers about what happened.

Redesigned boeing.com coming
The Boeing Company's
Internet site, www.boeing.com, in December will unveil a new look and
feel, with improved technology behind it. The site redesign is intended
to enhance users' online experience with easier page-to-page navigation,
faster downloading and improved access to resources and information.
"Our Internet site is an important source for users to obtain Boeing-related
news, information and resources. It's vital that we upgrade the site to
meet Internet standards and be compatible with evolving technologies.
And we want to make all aspects of the users' experience as easy, fast
and convenient as possible," said Jo Anne Davis, vice president,
Boeing Internal and Executive Communications.
Research—and feedback from customers and Boeing employees—on
the need for a more visually appealing and user-friendly site prompted
the redesign. The Boeingwide redesign team has worked nearly two years
on the project.
Upgraded technologies will ensure that the site will be compatible with
future Web-enabled devices, such as mobile phones and other wireless tools
people may use for Internet access. In addition, the technology upgrade
will reduce future time and costs associated with adding more functions
and other maintenance. The redesign also will ensure that Boeing remains
compliant with the U.S. Department of Justice's Americans with Disabilities
Act, so people who need specialized Internet-browsing environments, such
as screen readers, can more easily use boeing.com.
