Motivating teachers and enhancing their skills in presenting math, science and technology lessons in the classroom is the goal of the annual Boeing Educators to Space Camp program. This year 91 teachers from 16 states, the District of Columbia, Australia, Israel, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom participated in the six-day training, held last month at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.

More than 330 teachers have participated in the program during its 14 years. Teachers who graduate from Space Camp leave with a workbook and lesson-plan information supplied by the camp. They also have access to an educator training facility and a Web site (designed for graduates) containing science experiments and other curriculum information.

“These teachers will be inspired to bring this aerospace experience back to the classroom through new and challenging science lessons—for a direct and lasting effect on the students they teach,” said Rick Stephens, senior vice president, Boeing Internal Services. Enhancing teacher effectiveness in the classroom is a core element of Boeing’s Early Learning/Kindergarten-to-12th-grade education strategy.
