Looking ahead
Here are more predictions on future demographic
shifts:
- Eight countries—Bangladesh, China, India, Nigeria,
Pakistan, the United States, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic
of Congo—will account for half of all global population
growth through the year 2050.
- Children now 10 and younger may grow up in a world
where the introduction of genetic medicines and therapies could
help
them live to at least 120. Among the changes needed to accommodate
this older population: revised interiors and furniture, such
as on airplanes.

More predictions on future
economic trends:
- By the year 2025, the so-called “
BRIC economies”—Brazil, Russia,
India and China—could account for
more than half the size of the G6
countries’ economies (United States, United Kingdom,
Japan, Germany, France and Italy).
- The world will see a 50 percent increase in energy
demand by the year 2025, driven largely by China’s explosive
growth.
