THANKS FOR A 'MAGICAL AIRPLANE'

Boeing employees got an earful of praise from U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Harold "Mitch" Mitchell on May 25 when he accepted delivery of the 120th C-17 during ceremonies at Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in Long Beach, Calif.

"I've got to tell you how humble I feel standing here in front of a group of Boeing employees and suppliers who bring this magical airplane to life," said Mitchell, who is mobilization assistant to the commander, 18th Air Force at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. "I was raised on a small farm near Beaufort, S.C., and vividly remember plowing fields in back of a mule as a young boy-and here I am today going to take a C-17 off to war.

"I had the opportunity to tour the C-17 assembly line earlier today and I was very impressed by the people working on the line," Mitchell said.

"Thank you for all you do. You build a great airplane. I am blessed to be able to fly them. And, by the way, we need more of them."

After the ceremony, Mitchell flew the aircraft to McChord Air Force Base, Wash.

BOEING TEAMS WITH UNISYS ON BIOMETRIC PROJECT

A Unisys Corp. team including Boeing Homeland Security & Services has been awarded a contract under the U.S. Transportation Security Administration Registered Traveler Pilot Program to demonstrate biometric capabilities at three airports. Registered Traveler permits frequent fliers to obtain a biometric credential-a unique identifier, such as a fingerprint or iris scan-that lets them navigate airport security checkpoints more efficiently without compromising TSA's security standards. The program is scheduled to last 90 days at Minneapolis/ St. Paul International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The Unisys team consists of Boeing, ADT, Daon, Infoglide and SITA.
